Get your MP signed up to 10:10
RSS FeedAnyone signed up to the 10:10 campaign should have received this email today from the organisers. If not, here it is. It's encouraging people to get their MPs committing to reduce their 10% in 2010. See below.
Dear 10:10ers,
Welcome aboard to the 10,000 people who've jumped on since our last message, and hello again to the founders and pioneers who signed up at the launch.
Firstly, thank you so much for the fantastic response to the callout for financial help in our last message. Your donations came just in time to keep the wolf from the door, with a whopping six grand landing straight on the table within 24 hours of our asking for help.
Secondly, we're getting nail-bitingly close to our first 20,000 people and 1000 business signups. If everyone just gets one more person to join, that would do it - but persuade five and we'll hit 100,000 before we know it. Click here to help get us there.
Thirdly, the big news this mailout is that we've teamed up with new media campaigners 38 Degrees to create a really simple action that invites your local MP to join 10:10 - and if they won't, to write back and tell you why not. It will only take 2 minutes of your time, and is an easy way to get your MP to prove that they care about climate change.

We had to stop the press on our first mailout as we heard the news that the front benches of all three major parties had signed up to 10:10. A very surreal day culminated in this statement from the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown: “I fully support the 10:10 campaign and its challenge for everyone to cut carbon emissions by 10% in 2010."
Since then, the Liberal Democrats have responded to the 10:10 challenge in a really big way by passing a truly inspirational motion to their conference. Here's their leader Nick Clegg on his blog yesterday: "We will demand 10% cuts in emissions in 2010, like the brilliant 10:10 campaign is fighting for." Just to be clear - he's talking about signing up the entire UK to a 10% cut in emissions next year! Blimey. They're also going to sign up every Lib Dem council in the country, as well as asking their entire membership to join too.
We'll leave you with this awesome statement from Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat climate change spokesman:
“To preserve our economic and environmental future, we need to make serious cuts now. That means a 10% reduction in UK emissions in 2010.”
So, Brown and Cameron - who (or what) will you sign up next?
