Good (short term) news. The Low Carbon Building programme, which was scheduled to finish in March this year, has been extended until March 2011.

The programme allocates grants and funding for those who wish to install microgeneration technologies at home or for public buildings. It has been great at encouraging investment into small scale solar and wind power, offering grants of up to £2,500 for homeowners.

The extensions mean that the Low Carbon Buildings Programme householder stream will remain open until June 2010 or funds are fully allocated – it’s a first come first serve line so if you want to install renewable generators then don’t miss the boat.

Applications for public sector buildings (eligible for some large funding) have only until June 2009 to get applications in. See phase 2 of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP2).
