A step forward for our wind farm development
RSS Feed Christmas came early for the generation team at Good Energy when the planning and development committee at North Cornwall District Council voted in favour of approving our application to repower Delabole wind farm. We are now waiting for the final formal wording and the conditions attached to the planning that must be met before Good Energy receives the permission in writing.
We hope the project will be complete in the next 12 to 18 months during which we will be replacing the 10 turbines currently there with four modern, more powerful generators.
Delabole was the first commercial Wind farm in the UK. Although the turbines are still fully functional wind technology has moved on significantly since Delabole was first built, and the site is perfect for more power output – the four new turbines will be increasing production from 10,000 MWh / yr to around 25,000 MWh / yr, enough energy for 7,500 homes.
On receiving news of the project's planning approval, Juliet Davenport, Chief Executive of Good Energy Group said: "I am delighted that Delabole wind farm has received approval to be Repowered. Delabole was the UK's first commercial wind farm and today we have reached a significant milestone in the next stage of its development. We are entering the second generation of wind energy in the UK, proving it is an economically and environmentally sustainable energy source."
And don’t worry, we’re not just going to bin the old turbines. Once they are decommissioned we’ll be able to decide what’s best to do with them.
