Good Energy, the 100% renewable electricity supplier, is boosting its campaign to grow renewable generation in the UK by launching the first in a series of special masterclasses, ‘Power from the People: How to Generate Renewable Energy’.

The first event will be held at Good Energy’s wind farm in Delabole, North Cornwall on Saturday October 31st

‘Power from the People’ will call on the expertise of Good Energy’s team, Good Energy’s partners ‐ including the Soil Association and Cooperative Bank ‐ and experienced generators; with workshops covering:

  • how to select the right technology;
  • how to plan and finance your project; and
  • how to get paid for your energy.

The workshops are aimed at both microgenerators wishing to provide energy on a domestic or small commercial scale and at commercial generators who want to generate and export electricity, who can earn an income to underpin their business or community.

Juliet Davenport, Founder and CEO of Good Energy said: “A cornerstone of Good Energy’s philosophy is growing renewable generation in the UK. We want to make it as easy as possible for homes, businesses and communities to generate their own clean energy, which is why we’re launching this series of masterclasses ‐ and what better place to kick off than at Delabole, the UK’s first commercial wind farm.

“Generating your own power not only helps reduce overall carbon emissions but can help insulate us all from fuel price fluctuations and provide an alternative income in the future.”

Patrick Holden, Soil Association director, said: “The Soil Association is delighted to be working with Good Energy ‐ we share the common principle of the urgent need to relocalise our food and energy systems. We must celebrate and build on this partnership.

“In the future farms will not only be the producers of food but also the producers of renewable energy ‐ an important move toward a more resilient and sustainable model of agriculture. On the main grid so much energy is lost getting from power station to end user. Microgeneration gives the power back to the user and makes them less reliant on fossil fuels.”

Delabole wind farm, where the event will be held, was the UK’s first commercial wind farm. Owned by Good Energy Group plc, it is set to be repowered, increasing its capacity by two‐and‐a‐half times and providing enough energy to supply more than 7,500 homes when it becomes fully operational. Event participants will have the opportunity to get inside the existing Delabole turbines and learn more about Good Energy’s repowering project.

Tickets for Good Energy’s ‘Power from the People: How to Generate Renewable Energy’ are on sale now for £20. The event on October 31st runs from 1.30pm to 8pm.
